Dr. Gyinadu Abubakar is an accomplished agricultural economist and development researcher with over a decade of experience in applied research, policy analysis, and evidence generation across Ghana’s agrifood and natural resource sectors. His expertise spans econometric modeling, political economy analysis, impact evaluation, survey design, evidence synthesis, and agricultural innovation systems—positioning him as a leading voice in data-driven rural development.
Dr. Abubakar holds a PhD in Applied Agricultural Economics and Policy from the University of Ghana, where his doctoral work examined energy transitions among rural farming households. He also earned an MPhil in Agricultural Economics and a BSc in Agriculture (Economics & Farm Management) from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST). His academic and research journey reflects a strong commitment to influencing agricultural policy and improving smallholder livelihoods through rigorous scientific inquiry.
He has contributed to major research initiatives with institutions such as the University of Greenwich (UK), University of Ghana, University for Development Studies, AGRA, and the International Water Management Institute (IWMI). His work includes large-scale quantitative and qualitative data collection, analysis of socio-economic drivers of farmer behavior, political economy studies of food systems, and authorship of peer-reviewed publications. Notable contributions include:
  1. Leading policy analysis and food environment assessments under the PEAFI Project.
  2. Conducting multi-regional socioeconomic impact evaluations for AGRA’s SIPMA Project.
  3. Producing technical reports on climate risks and resilience strategies for IWMI.
  4. Designing and guiding complex mixed-methods research across diverse rural contexts.

As Senior Advisor – Research & Rural Livelihoods at GetCare Foundation, Dr. Abubakar provides strategic leadership on research design, baseline assessments, monitoring and evaluation, and the development of evidence-based livelihood models. He plays a pivotal role in shaping the analytical framework of the GetCare RECLAIM Project, ensuring its approaches are scientifically grounded, scalable, and aligned with global best practices in land restoration, food systems transformation, and rural empowerment.
Dr. Abubakar is passionate about advancing research that bridges academia and practical development outcomes. His work continues to inform policy, strengthen rural communities, and support the design of innovative, climate-resilient agricultural interventions.
