Improving Environmental Health
Across forests, farmlands, water systems, and biodiversity hotspots, environmental degradation remains one of the most significant threats to global stability and human development. The world loses an estimated 10 million hectares of forest every year (FAO), driven by unsustainable land use, illegal logging, mining, and climate-related pressures.
How We Do It
GetCare Foundation leads large-scale restoration efforts to rehabilitate degraded farmlands, riverbanks, watersheds, and mining-affected landscapes. We use climate-smart restoration techniques—including assisted natural regeneration, soil rehabilitation, and enrichment planting—to recover soil productivity and stabilize fragile ecosystems. Through community-led land restoration models, we equip rural households with the skills and tools needed to reclaim degraded land and restore ecological function at scale.
We work with communities, traditional authorities, and local governments to protect critical forest landscapes from illegal logging, encroachment, and destructive mining activities. Our efforts include establishing community forest guards, supporting forest-friendly livelihood alternatives, promoting sustainable harvesting practices, and deploying monitoring tools for early detection of forest threats. We also partner with research and conservation institutions to safeguard biodiversity, protect wildlife habitats, and maintain ecosystem services that support water, climate, and food systems./span>
We help vulnerable communities build resilience to climate risks by promoting nature-based and ecosystem-based adaptation strategies. Our interventions include promoting drought-resilient cropping systems, water harvesting technologies, climate-resilient agroforestry, and flood-control measures. We integrate climate information services, early warning systems, and community preparedness training to reduce exposure to climate shocks while strengthening local adaptive capacity.
Environmental protection requires strong governance. We support local governments, community groups, and relevant institutions to develop and implement sustainable land-use plans, environmental bylaws, and ecosystem management frameworks. Through evidence-based advocacy, stakeholder engagement, and data sharing, we influence policies that protect forests and water bodies, reduce land degradation, and strengthen climate action at district, regional, and national levels.
FROM AWARENESS TO ACTION
Through sustainable practices and innovative interventions, we safeguard natural ecosystems, reduce pollution, and promote resilient communities for healthier environments and brighter futures.
Environmental Health In Focus
Building Regeneration Deliberately, Consistently, and at Scale
Regeneration is not something we wait for. It is something we build — deliberately, consistently, and at scale. Across many rural landscapes, the conversation around restoration is often framed as a future goal: something to be pursued when the right funding arrives, when the right technology becomes available, or when…
Lifting Millions of Farmers Out of Poverty
At GetCare Foundation, we are working toward a clear and urgent goal: to support between 150,000 and 2 million smallholder farmers across Africa in building more resilient, productive, and market-connected livelihoods. Across many rural communities, smallholder farmers remain the backbone of food systems. Yet, despite their importance, they often operate…
When Simple Tools Drive Real Change: Field Insights from Bono Region, Ghana
Agricultural transformation in rural communities is often discussed in terms of large-scale investments, advanced technologies, and complex systems. While these are important, field realities continue to demonstrate that meaningful change can also begin with simple, practical interventions. In many smallholder farming communities, productivity and livelihoods are constrained not only by…
